Dear Flaget Alumnus and Friends:

2020 was a very trying year for our country and we have felt the impact of the COVID-19 Virus on our luncheons as well as our membership. To comply with Federal Guidelines and State mandates we were unable to hold our monthly luncheons (we our currently having our luncheons again). On a positive note, we were able to host our annual golf scramble and successfully raised over $25,000 for our annual charitable donations.

Our January 2021 membership has dropped to 860 in part due to the increasing number of deaths of our classmates and the impact of the COVID-19 Virus. Our membership for 2020 was 941, and for 2019 was 950. We all need to recruit new members of our association. Ask your classmates to join. Membership is open to anyone. Ask your children to join to keep the memory of Flaget alive.

In 2004 we established The Flaget Endowment Fund for Catholic Education with the goal of achieving $1,000,000 and distributing scholarships for education at Catholic Institutions. We attained our goal in 2015 began giving $5,000 scholarships to the area Catholic High Schools. Thus far we have distributed $355,000 for scholarships including $60,000 we distributed in 2020. The value of the Endowment Fund on 1 January 2021 was $1,463,181.63. We feel that this is the best way to preserve the name and legacy of our school. Please consider a donation to our Endowment Fund.

In 2020 we were also able to continue our annual donations to charitable organizations. Our charity committee determined 23 charities to receive our donations and the Board authorized $29,000 for distribution. The success of our charitable contribution program is based upon our annual golf scramble which is our primary fund-raising activity.

Our Flaget Museum was rededicated several years ago. If you haven’t visited, it’s well worth your time. The museum is located in Xaverian Hall on the St. Xavier High School campus and is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday-Friday. (Note: the museum is currently open but due to State COVID-19 mandates you have to wear a mask).

We are continually searching for our alumni with whom we have lost contact and have narrowed the list to 8 which is listed on this website and in the winter 2020 issue of Smoke Signals. Please contact us if you have address information of these missing classmates.
